RIP Donald Barger. Donnie was one of the best at his job. I'm a cousin of donnie's and we were more like brothers then cousins. We both entered the service about the same time however I retired prior to Donnie as he Retired in JAN 08. Donnie always told me that he enjoyed what he did and that there was no way he could fit into the civilian sector. Donnie was KIA in Afganistan doing what he loved to do which was hunting those who have hunted us. Donnie I will see you on the other side my brother.

Assalamallaikum Sir,
From Amina Mohammed
Compliments of the season. I'm Mrs Amina Mohammed. I picked interest on you, after glancing through your short profile; I wish to solicit your help in migrating to your country and investing my funds. Briefly, I am a Sudanese National and the wife of late Dr Mohammed Dunlea.
.
Until his death, my husband was the Chief Executive of the Diamond Mine in kanema, southern Sudan.
On April 6 2004 Rebels (Arab Militias) invaded the diamond mine And assassinated my husband, mistaking him for his brother musa Dunlea who is a top Government official and special aide to the president.
When the news reached me, I Hurriedly gathered some aluables in our family villa and escaped in the company of our Only son, Abdulkarim Mohammed.
Among the valuables was a file that contained details of a deposit my husband made in a security company in Lome, Togo. The document stated that my late Husband deposited 3.5 million US dollars contained in a trunk box in the name of our son Abdulkarim.
The deposit was registered as family valuables and art works. I believe my late husband made this fortune from the sale of Gold and diamonds during his time as the Executive Director of the diamond mining corporation.
Now that we are in Togo and verified the existence of this deposit, we need your assistance to move this deposit out of Lome for investment in your country as we cannot invest here due to our status as political refugees.
I am proposing to give you 20% of the total sum (3 .5 million US
Dollars) and 15% share in any investment we will embark upon if you assist us.
We will also set aside 3% of the funds for incidental expenses
which you could make in course of this transaction (fax messages, phone calls, air tickets etc).
I am making this proposal in good faith believing that you will not
disappoint us knowing the difficult situation we are facing here in West Africa.
I will ask you to treat the existence of these funds as top secret for
security reasons. Your urgent response will be appreciated as I will
personally arrange towards getting this fund into your country through diplomatic means.
Also, send me your telephone number so that we talk further. {Via my son} For this jection i will like you to speak with my son as man to man because he is the one that will stand for his father s' proparty.
I am optimistic that this fund will be safe in your hands, as a reputable person that you are.
PLS REPLY THROUGH MY ALTERNATIVE BOX amina_md11@yahoo.com
Thanks and Alah bless you,
Best regards.

A veteran - whether active duty, retired, or national guard or reserve - is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to "The United States of America," for an amount of "up to and including my life." That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country who no longer understand it.

What do you say to someone who truely gave all there was to give? Their loyalty to the U.S. Constitution, the Army, and U.S. civilians should create in us an attitude of gratitude and honor towards these men and the many like them. Thank you to all of those soldiers who know what happens in combat, but still choose to drive on to your duty. Your sacrifice does not go unlooked.

The world may never know all of your names, or even of the things you've done or of how you sacrificed on its behalf; they only know that, because of you, our children sleep safe at night, that our homes are secure and intact, and that we have no more things to worry about than the mundane things of life. You have given us this safety, you have given us our freedom. Thank God for you, and for the many more like you. Those of us who care to know will always love and revere you, and our children will learn of the great men who have gone before them to keep our world safe. May God hold you safe in the palm of His hand forever!

Rob was a student of mine and I hardly new him. His team sgt was an old friend and we knew many of the same people but he was buisy with his ODA, and I was buisy out at Camp Mackall and USASOC. Our kids though became close and I got to know him better but before long, he was gone. I knew many of the guys now gone. Scott Dyer comes to mind since I remeber when he came to the team and we all thought, "this guys nuts". He fit right in. Rob though, I never did get to work with. However, I see his picture and I feel my little brother looking back at me. I want you to know Rob that Tanya is fine. She still talks about you all the time but, she's doing much better. Vanessa is doing great. She's becoming a beutifull young lady and has a healthy temper. She and Claudette are like sisters. They can't stand being apart and fight like sisters should. Then theres LeiLei. She's the happiest kid I know and she breaks all our hearts. She's just too damned cute. Then theres your little man but he's not so little now. He's becoming quite a leader and you'd be most proud of him. His peers seem to flock around him an its a responsibility he's able to take on.
Rob, I'm in Iraq now, still in USASOC and just hangin out, and I know how much you've actually taught me. (Who's the instructor now?)
I think of Pam and Claudette, and I think of Vanessa and Josh, and I remember you brother. I hardly knew you and for this I'll be kicking myself in the ass for the rest of my life. But I know that you are now my best instructor, in life.
Know that you are loved and missed brother and when I get home, I hope Josh and I can go fishing, so I can try to try to explain this to him.....jd

What we do is not who we are, but it becomes who we were. All these names of those who had tread the battlefield and now sing with the angels, and all those blessed with having known and loved them will be remembered for their strength and inspiration. Should this war need to trundle on, people like all of you and those for whom you mourn will burn in the fires of memory long after the last shots have rung. I have not lost anyone to this war, but rather the opportunity to know them in some future time, and for those lost opportunities, I remember.

SFC.Crabtree, well Dan was a friend to me growing up in the Falls. He helped me along in life to help me stay out of trouble, he was a community officer, and respected to the highest in the Falls. He guided me to were i am now. He is the reason i joined the Army. Now here i am 6 years later, yes still a Private, missing the time i had with him, and seeing him when i return home for leave. Now almost 2 years after that tragic day, he is still an insperation to me, and to everyone he touched in life. He will forever be reemberd as a gentalman, a soldier, but most importantly a friend.
My condolencies to your unit, and to the family will forever be with me, and extended to your family, and to his. We loved him, and will forever remember the man he was, and still is in our hearts.

To the Speer family. As a whole, all of the citizens of Canada have read what happened. We are deeply ashamed of the actions and behaviour of the Khadr's and fervently hope that he, I refuse to use his first name is never released from prison. May he rot in hell. "Obie, 2-20-08
I just found out a few days ago what happened. I bet you could my heart break. Ive cried every night since wondering what to write. No word can express how special you were to me & perhaps I had more feelings for you than I thought and I can't help but to wonder if I made a mistake not going to see you that night. I watched our video this morning and what's weird is I still remember your every touch. I was trying to look you up when I saw your memorial page. I suppose I thought you would always be out there and I would find you if I needed. You will always have a piece of my heart Obie. It actually physically hurts, and the tears won't wash you from my eyes.
Oh Obie.............................
I never thought i would say that as I was telling you goodbye. You will never be forgotten. Remember someone in Washington will always miss you.
Goodbye my soldier"

How saddened I am to have heard of the passing of my old friend SFC Pedro Munoz. I was assigned as a rigger with 3rd Group and worked in the HALO section when I met "Papi". I was a young soldier then, and I looked up to all the members of the teams that I supported, but Pedro was a special figure to me. That was a long time ago, and I've had a long break in service before returning, but I have never forgotten him. When I would reminisce about 3rd Group I always thought of him, and many days doing HALO jumps at St. Mere DZ. I recently returned to the Army and found out about Pedro's passing as I stood waiting to enter my SSG promotion board at 1st BN 7th GRP. I saw his memorial and began to weep moments before I entered the room. As I collected myself, I thought of him and the soldier he was. With a new found determination I went in and maxed the board. I like to think that his spirit somehow was with me in there, even if only through the influence he had on me early in my career. Rest in peace my friend. Although the years drew our acquaintance apart, you were never forgotten, nor will you ever be. De Oppresso Liber.

I was stationed with Jeff Kettle in Vicenza; we were in the same Platoon... it tore me up to find out about him. I loved hanging out with him; his personality was a true highlight for us. He was allways a "go-getter" and I can't say I ever saw him down or unmotivated; he was allways willing to stand up and help out others. Man... he was one of the best guys ever. Robert J Miller, 3rd SFG, lost his young life in Afghanistan on the 25th of January, 08. I went through most of the "Q" course with Rob--To his family, he was a role model, a brave young American, represented the best of his generation. He will always be remembered and respected.

I had the opportunity to work with SGT Wood while commanding a small FLE in MeS, AF 2003-2004. My team helped support his ODA with essentials for their missions. He was a good Soldier that cared about the people he worked with and those he helped ease their suffering. He will be missed.

In Loving Memory of Scott Dyer and all other special forces....
Away!
I cannot say, and I will not say
That he is dead! He is just away!
With a cheery smile, and a wave of the hand,
He has wandered into an unknown land.
And left us dreaming how very fair
It must be, since he lingers there.
And you, - O you, who the wildest yearn
For the old-time step and the glad return, -
Think of him faring on, as dear
In the love of There as the love of Here;
Mild and gentle, as he was brave, -
When the sweetest love of his life he gave
To simple things: - where the violets grew
Pure as the eyes they were likened to,
The touches of his hands have strayed
As reverently as his lips have prayed.
Think of him still as the same, I say;
He is not dead - he is just away!

First, I would like to thank those individuals responsible for this website, its the best I've seen. Second, I would like to thank the family members of each soldier listed here today. You must be so proud of those men, I know I am. I read each one and found a connection to them. God Bless you all. They all had one common denominator, to be the best and serve their country the best they knew how. I too served in the military during Desert Storm and now my son serves with the 82nd ABN Div and just returned home from 15 months in Iraq. While he was there he was shot in the leg during the "surge" last summer. He's fine now, but the thought of losing him has been on my mind ever since. I go to this website and actually see those that have paid the ultimate sacrifice and things come into focus. God bless all your sons and you in this time of sorrow.

As a 12 year veteran on the teams (18D/C), I can not begin to tell you how hard it is to watch the sacrifice that our ranks is making. Special Forces changed my life because of the lessons that I learned when I was with the teams, the time that I served on deployment in Central America, Desert Storm and Haiti and the unforgettable memories that remain with me since I left the teams. My heart and soul goes out to the friends, family members and team members that have to personally experience this sacrifice. God bless you.

"To Love A Soldier"....
To Love a Soldier
Is to Become One Too.
To have a Heart of Pride and Passion,
A Desire to Kill Evil,
Yet Love, Love Tenderly......
Let me in,
For I am yours.
You are my Soldier
And I am yours.....
I am a Soldier
Of Love, Life and Peace.
My Weapon is my Heart.
I Fight for what I Love.
I Love you, My Soldier,
And it is you whom I will fight for.....
They say I am Strong,
They ask me how I survive,
I say I hold my head up high
And shed my tears at night.....
With you my soldier
I only feel Love and Power
You shield my heart with gold
And it shines,
Shines with Love and Courage.....
I miss you.
Come back to me, My Soldier,
For I am yours
And I am waiting.........
-I dedicate this to all the brave men and women out there fighting for our freedom
and to those lonely hearts waiting patiently for their loved one’s safe arrival.

It is something to be apart of something that is bigger than you. Maj. Syverson was a very cool guy. I will never forget when we did resupply convoys all over Iraq. He was a very fair guy. SSG Mardis always reminded me of Tom Cruise. He just had the cool guy look and was a nice guy. We got to group the same day. MSG Moorehead was aight after I got to talk to him a couple of times. Him and I kinda got into it a lil bit in the computer lab one day, but he was right for doing what he did. To me he seemed quiet. I will never forget the last time I talked to him. SFC Bennett was a character as well. He seemed to love 7-up. He would ask for a case of it everytime he came into the chow hall where we were. He always seemed to be in good spirits. I cant never say that I had ever seen him down before. These guys are truely heros to me. People never know how people effect your lives when they cross you. This is the first time I have been to this site. It is humbling to read. I am reminded of the closing scene in "Gladiator" when the Roman soldiers and gladiators were told to honor the fallen Maximus because he was a soldier of Rome. I constantly remind my children (7 of them)to honor our fallen for they were Soldiers of the United States.
I pray for the comfort of their families and comrades in arms, and I vow to do everything I can to see that their memory lives on with the next generation.

In a short time span I lost 4 of my friends (commrades) who are mentioned above-Tung Nguyen who was my TAC at Student Company in the Q course-although I was a fellow E-7 he always imparted his advice to help me to ensure that my transition into SF would be smooth an uneventful, all the advice imparted to me was perfect-he was a true mentor-I still miss our hours of talks and Joking around.
Will Brown and Eric Caban point blank were litterally my Ranger buddies from 3/75 Rangers. Willy B. (as I called him) when he was on staff I'd always go in and harass him, one day I went in and jokingly told him "your as yellow as the rose of Texas" DON'T EVER TELL THAT TO A TEXAN-man he had about 15 minutes of explicit words for me (jokingly). When I was finishing the Q course and I seen him coming through selection-he still had his 15 minutes of explicites for me and we laughed so hard it probably still echos at Camp M still today. Eric I would harass cause his section shot so much that I would always see him cleaning his long gun and I would tell him "I want that weapon inspection ready in 5"-he would reply "it won't be ready-it will never be ready we're shooting tomorrow" I still remember when his section, when we were training (in Germany), got chased down by OPFOR and after a day or 2 they got caught and the PL of the OPFOR started talking big smack cause he caught the Rangers-Eric choked him out-LOL!
Jason Palmerton and I went through the entire course together as communicators, through every phase-for the whole duration of our time in the course we always talked on a daily basis. Him being an X-ray and very intelligent- I was always impressed with his determination and drive-really procative. Even after we got to our unit, after the course, he would seek me out and ask for advice-he was like a little brother to me.
To all the families of our fallen, God bless and your fallen will never be forgotten-they will always have brothers that will never forget them and tell their stories and the memories we have of them to our children and on every Memorial Day we will Remember them and weep for them. With each passing day the realization of just how important these silent warriors are and the sacrifices they endure for the sake of freedom becomes more apparent. I want to thank each and every soldier in the SF community for volunteering to take up the banner and lead the next generation of warriors in the struggle for liberation and freedom. Tung Nguyen was a good man that left a lasting impression on all that knew him. From his first days at Benning to Schofield and Alpha 4/22 at the 25th I always felt that he loved his country and his fellow man.
I have no doubt from having been a friend in his formative years and seeing how committed he became to his fellow soldier that he died he died standing tall without fear and in the full knowledge that he left behind men willing and able to pick up and push forward.
4/22 bred many men, but perhaps none finer than Tung M. Nguyen who chose to lead from the front.
Godspeed Nguyen, you shall live in many hearts way beyond your years.

God bless the families of all those that appear here. MSG Yost squared me away on several occasions and I will be forever indebted to him. SFC Crabtree also squared me away and was a decent and patient man. I will never forget either of you.

My dad was a Green Beret during the Vietnam Era. He never made it to the war but lost many friends. His greatest accomplishment and what made him stand tall was being a member "forever" of the special forces. I am an active duty Master Sergeant in the Air Force, a veteran of Desert Storm and OIF/OEF. I presently serve on the Joint Staff in the Pentagon for DIA. On behalf of my dad and my fellow Airmen..."Proud to Serve"...God's Speed and Good Hunting. MSgt Ash, USAF

There have been many misleading stories concerning the death of MSG Anthony Yost. For those who have asked about the circumstances related to his death, I have included the Official letter from the Military.
Master Sergeant Anthony Ray Charles Yost, while assigned to Special Forces Operational Detachment-Alpha 381, FOB 51, Mosul, Iraq distinguished himself by exceptionally valorous conduct while engaged in combat operations against enemies of the United States during Operation IRAQI FREEDOM. In the early morning hours of 19 November 2005, while serving as the Detachment Operations Sergeant, MSG Yost was called into action to respond to distress calls from elements of the Iraqi Police Service and 2-1 Infantry, 172d Stryker Brigade Combat Team (SBCT) that were engaged in a furious battle with heavily armed insurgents in northeastern Mosul.
In a dense urban area against determined opposition, the Iraqi Police (IP) had suffered four KIA and many more wounded while the US infantry had already suffered 11 wounded, two of whom would later die of wounds. MSG Yost responded to their urgent calls for assistance by rapidly assembling his detachment and elements from the 2nd Iraqi Army Division that had been trained and advised by SFODA 381. After organizing this response force and moving to the objective area, MSG Yost was informed that US infantry had been engaged from multiple locations and were unable to secure and clear the house. Even rocket fire from US helicopters had been unable to dislodge this determined enemy force.
Without regard for his own safety, MSG Yost volunteered to lead an assault to secure the house. He quickly assembled a group of Special Forces and IA soldiers, and led them into the target house where they were rapidly engaged by insurgents, both inside as well as outside of the house. As the firefight raged, MSG Yost , accompanied by a squad of Iraqi Army Soldiers, fearlessly moved forward and entered the enemy stronghold. Once inside the house, MSG Yost led his Iraqi Soldiers on a room to room search, once again with total disregard for his own safety, and eliminated the insurgents inside the house. As he was consolidating his force, an enormous explosion from a hidden demolition charge engulfed the house, instantly reducing most of it to rubble and fatally wounding MSG Yost and several of the Iraqi Soldiers accompanying him. The corpses of seven insurgents were recovered from the rubble of the house as well as a cache containing explosives, mines, remote detonating devices, and a scoped rifle.
MSG Yost died leading a group of Iraqi soldiers from the front, soldiers that he had trained. Rather than simply have the Iraqi Army unilaterally clear the house, MSG Yost voluntarily and audaciously led the assault element, going far above and beyond what was required of him as a combat advisor. MSG Yost’s exceptional courage and leadership inspired the inexperienced Iraqi soldiers to follow him and assault a determined enemy that had already inflicted significant casualties on friendly forces, despite the immediate danger they faced. His actions are in keeping with the finest traditions of military heroism and reflect distinct credit upon himself, the Command, Special Operations Command Central, and the United States Army.

I returned from Ft Bragg today after having watched my son, Karl Hilderbrand, graduate from his Special Forces training and put on his Green Beret. I am reading my evening paper, and see of the death of Sergeant 1st Class Jeffrey Kettle, a Green Beret, in Afghanistan. My son will be with 5th Group, Ft Campbell, and hopes to deploy in November. As a mother, I suppose that I should be hoping that he does not; after having seen his graduation, the fine men he graduated with, and the many fine men like SGT Kettle before him, I know that serving with these men and for his country is what he must do. Whatever happens, he was meant to do this. We owe many thanks to you all.
